About us

A student society for thoughtful engagement with Russia, its cultures and its people.

Oxford New Russian Society brings together students and friends of the university who want to discuss Russia critically, build community and imagine an inclusive, peaceful future.

Our mission

Our mission is to foster a diverse, democratic and inclusive community.

We provide a safe space at Oxford for transformative discussion about Russian history, current politics, future reforms and culture. We oppose militarism and imperialism, elevate marginalised narratives and work towards a future where aggression becomes impossible.

01

Fostering a diverse community

We create a space for people with different Russian-related backgrounds, including Russian democrats, anti-militarists and anti-imperialists.

02

A safe and inclusive space

We critically engage with Russian and Soviet imperial legacies, power and oppression while recognising intersecting identities and experiences.

03

A networking platform

We connect people interested in Russian history, current politics and future reforms, with attention to marginalised communities.

What we do

A programme shaped by curiosity rather than a single format.

Get involved

Come to an event, join the list or help shape the next term.

You do not need prior knowledge of Russian language or politics to take part. Bring a question, a film recommendation, a speaker idea or simply an interest in meeting people.
