On 29 November 2024, we hosted a live concert at the Hertford College Chapel, honouring Nicholas Roerich (1874–1947), a renowned Russian painter, philosopher, and cultural advocate. Best known for his breathtaking Himalayan landscapes and his efforts to promote peace and cultural unity, Roerich championed the idea of bridging Eastern and Western traditions.

This concert celebrated Roerich's life and legacy, focusing on his time in India and his passion for cultural exchange. The performance wove together Indian and Russian musical elements, highlighting the harmony Roerich envisioned between East and West. The evening featured a Russian oud player and an Indian opera singer, blending traditional Indian and Russian motifs to transport the audience to the mystical landscapes Roerich so vividly captured in his art and writings.
